With young adults, parental involvement is no longer a requirement, though they still try to engage with parents whenever possible. He spotted the cocoons and immediately called me out to look at it, perhaps remembering the bagworm moth cocoon we had discovered in the orchard back in 2013. In each case, I was able to get help to identify the cocoon and insect species and determine whether I should leave it alone or remove it.
